Meet Tito!

A few weeks after Lola’s passing and the creation of the program, we received an email from New York City Animal Control Center—Manhattan which included a 15-year-and-8-month-old Chihuahua. Immediately, we knew we had to rescue him.

The staff let us know that he had a stage-8 heart murmur, is partially blind, cannot use his back legs, had a perianal tumor, and was most likely suffering from the late stages of heart disease. His owner had been hospitalized and the family surrendered him to NYCACC. He was in very bad shape.

We immediately took Tito in and brought him to the vet. Our vet discovered that it was not heart disease but a collapsed trachea that was causing him a lot of difficulty breathing. But, thanks to our amazing vet team, he has made a full recovery! He later also had to have his perianal tumor removed because it became infected, had his teeth cleaned, and was neutered (it was causing the tumor to grow). Again, miraculously, this very old dog survived.

Tito will remain in the rescue as a hospice dog until his passing. He is in a loving hospice home with our Adoption/Foster Coordinator which also includes her two rescue dogs, Piper and Frank. Tito spends most of his days checking off bucket list items such as eating new things, swimming in the pool, going to the beach, meeting countless people and dogs, and so much more. We are truly blessed to be able to have Tito in our lives.
